Weaving Stripes

Cut 2 pieces of yarn about the length of your arms both stretched out.  It will be too much but that’s ok we are going to use the extra.  Using the two strands at the same time chain 20, DO NOT fasten off.  Do this with all of the colors you will be using, you need 10 in total.

Starting at the slip knot end, thread your tapestry needle and begin weaving the chain over and under the grid starting at the bottom.  At the top line the knot up with a stitch and insert needle through the stitch and pull yarn through.  Now, loop back around where you originally inserted the needle and go through the same stitch again, this time when you pull through, come back up and through the loop of the yarn you are pulling through to make a knot (see video if I just confused you).  Do that one more time in the same stitch.  Take the needle off and go to other end of Rug.  Determine the length needed to have the final stitch & knot sit right at the edge of the Rug, just like the other end.  Remove chains if you need to.  Fasten off that end, thread the needle and proceed to put the needle through a stitch, and make two knots just like you did on the other end.  Clip the fringe to the length you desire.  I put in all 10 stripes and then went back and added in additional fringe next to each stripe, you can do as much or a little fringe as you want.

The completed Mug Rug
Finished Rug measures approximately 6" X 5 1/2" not including fringe.
