I hope you are ready to have some fun with color and a stitch that has become a favorite for many. We use two basic stitches for this great look. Finding a pattern that you enjoy working on, looks great and can be used for various types of project is a win-win. This bright bold baby blanket is made with the marshmallow stitch in 3 bright bold colors. It’s a step away from the traditional baby pastels!

Stitches used in this pattern

Stitches:

sc – single crochet – yo, pull up loop, yo pull through both loops on hook.

dc – yo, insert hook into st, pull up loop, yo, pull through two loops, yo, pull through last two loops.

Let’s make a blanket

Chain 146 in MC (multiples of 12 +2)

Row 1 – dc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as two dc), *sk 2, (sc, dc, dc) in next st, repeat from * 2 more times, change to CC1 by pulling up a loop into the MC loop on hook, repeat from * in CC1 4 times, carrying MC in the middle of each stitch, switch back to MC, repeat from * in MC 4 times, switching back to CC1 after last cluster, continue across chain switching colors between MC and CC1 after every 4 clusters, to last 3 chs, sk 2, (sc, dc,dc), sc in last ch.

Row 2 – ch 2, turn, dc in 1st sc (be certain to carry MC from the prior row – this counts as your first cluster), *sk 2, (sc, dc,dc) in sc, repeat from * two more times, switch to MC repeating from * 4 times, continue to switch colors between MC and CC1 after every 4 clusters, continue across to last 4 clusters in MC, finish the row with a sc in the 1st ch from the prior row (be certain to carry CC1 in this last st).

Row 3 – 6 repeat row 2

Row 7 – change over to CC2, repeat row 2 starting with CC2 switching to MC, alternating across row.

Row 8 – 12 – Repeat row 7

Row 13 – 18 – change over to alternating CC1 and MC.

Continue with this pattern until you have reach a length of 12 squares.  Blanket will be 12 x 12 and approximately 36” x 36”.

Finish off top with a sc in the MC.   Pull in your MC, ch 1, sc in each st across, this will help smooth out the top.

I hope you enjoy this pattern and use it to make some wonderfully colorful baby blankets.
